Street Art Cities

Deze muurschildering van Studio Giftig op de zijgevel van de sporthal van basisschool ’t Stekske in de Lommelse parochie Kolonie, werd gerealiseerd in samenwerking met SAGA en de stad Lommel. Aan het project ging een participatietraject vooraf waarbij buurtbewoners ideeën en tekeningen konden insturen. Hun input vormde de basis voor de uiteindelijke mural. 

In de muurschildering komen glas, natuur en cultuur samen. Een vrouw verschijnt achter subtiel glas, waarin een weerspiegeling verwijst naar het Lommelse natuurgebied Sahara. Op haar vinger zit een zanglijster als symbool voor cultuur en beleving die in deze buurt een prominente plaats innemen. Kleine details zoals vlierbessen knipogen naar lokale streekproducten.

Studio Giftig werd begin 2007 opgericht door Kaspar van Leek en Niels van Swaemen. Het Nederlandse creatieve duo staat bekend om hun hyperrealistische muurschilderingen waarin ze urban art en fotorealisme combineren met subtiele surrealistische elementen.

This mural by Studio Giftig on the side wall of the sports hall at ’t Stekske primary school in the Kolonie parish of Lommel was created in collaboration with SAGA and the town of Lommel. The project was preceded by a participatory process during which local residents were invited to submit ideas and drawings. Their input formed the basis for the final mural.

The mural brings together glass, nature and culture. A woman appears behind a subtle glass panel, in which a reflection refers to the Sahara nature reserve in Lommel. A song thrush perches on her finger as a symbol of culture and experience, which occupy a prominent place in this neighbourhood. Small details such as elderberries nod to local produce.

Studio Giftig was founded in early 2007 by Kaspar van Leek and Niels van Swaemen. The Dutch creative duo are known for their hyper-realistic murals, in which they combine urban art and photorealism with subtle surrealist elements.
