New traditional

New traditional.

New traditional.

In Villafrati, an ancient and deeply felt devotional practice involves carrying the heavy statue, known as a "vara," on people's shoulders through the town streets during the Feast of the Holy Crucifix.

A child participates in the ritual, his magnetic gaze, the central focus of the composition, directed toward the viewer, capturing their attention.

He unknowingly plays an important role and represents continuity: the link between generations, essential to the sacred and profane folk traditions of southern Italy, for survival and the preservation of the narrative of their identity.
