Hablamos de Olmo, Olmos y Olmedas.

Created for GRAFITARRAS Festival

"to offer the possibility that in the village devoted to a deity (Virgin of the Elm) who is said to have appeared in an elm tree, and who is used to name everything from women to streets, to companies, buildings and festivals, can also have a greater spiritual connection with the original natural element itself, through its maximised and detailed representation, which is the great unknown and even mistreated (because they deliberately broke replanted elms), in a context and a community that has been losing its link with the natural environment, which is now almost exclusively cultivated in an extractive way for the economy and industry. The elm tree does not bear fruit for industry; it does not generate ‘economy’ in that sense. It is wild and even savage. It offers ephemeral and delicate 'samaras', almost ungraspable, which are dispersed by the wind that helps them take flight. Planting an elm tree here today is an act of freedom and even of counter-current rebellion. It is also an act of generosity towards those who come after us, as many of us will not live to see them reach adulthood. Within the Grafitarras community gathering and in tune with its energy, this work has been made possible thanks to the power of the collective, from Carlos' invitation to make the Elm visible, the pre-production by Carlos and Javier Paz, to all the support from neighbours in various forms, the fruits and vegetables that grow on these lands providing vitamins, hot tea in the afternoon and everyone's spirits in particular and in general.Long live the Elms!"
