Drawing by Antonio Vercher on the shutter of the Falla Tio Pep

The Reina – Paz – San Vicente ‘Tio Pep’ Fallas committee has repainted its shutter, but not just any old way. It has reproduced the cover of the llibret of the falla that the Círculo de Bellas Artes planted in 1925 on Calle de la Paz, a drawing by the illustrator Antonio Vercher Coll (Valencia, 1900-1934) where the name Tio Pep was used for the first time, which is currently the nickname of the commission that plants more or less in the same place.

According to the cartoonist, historian and scholar Manuel González Martí, Vercher was a prominent figure in the modern Valencian artistic generation that existed during the first third of the 20th century. He was also very committed to social causes.

The Falla Tío Pep wanted to pay tribute to Antonio Vercher on the 125th anniversary of his birth and also the 100th anniversary of that cover, with a creative intervention in the urban space consisting of a drawing that covers the entire shutter of the fallero casal (located at 20 Embajador Vich Street), reproducing the cover of the 1925 llibret. The artistic direction of this artistic expression is in the hands of Sofía Regidor Porcar, daughter and granddaughter of artists, cartoonist, illustrator, fine arts student and member of the commission."
