This mural on the back of the Boys & Girls Club building is a tribute to the Chicano civil rights struggle of the 1960's. It is a celebration of the work of the Mexican American Youth Association (M.A.Y.A.) and other groups that worked to establish better housing, educational opportunities and employment for many lower-income residents of Segundo Barrio. It features local leaders of the movement such as Salvador Ramirez, poet Lalo Delgado, Nina Cordero, a founder of La Fe health clinic, as well as others. The vibrant colors convey the heady energy of those days. The address will take you to the front of the Boys & Girls club. Walk around to the back of the building to the skate park.
