As part of the project “Right here, Rheinau,” artists Christina Laube and Mehrdad Zaeri—working together as DUO SOURATI—are transforming building façades in Mannheim’s Rheinau district into striking murals. With delicate line work, subtle colors, and great narrative power, they bring poetic snapshots to the walls—small stories from everyday life that invite viewers to pause, reflect, or simply feel joy. The art can be experienced at any time—on foot, by bike, or by tram. Already seven so-called murals enrich the neighborhood, with further works—both small and large—currently in planning.

The project began with the mural “ein Fest” on the centrally located Relaisstraße. Since then, a growing ensemble of urban artworks has emerged in the surrounding area. By summer 2026, even more art is set to appear in Rheinau—right in the middle of public space, right in the middle of everyday life. A creative sign of life in a district where culture has previously tended to remain in the shadows.

DUO SOURATI consists of writer and photographer Christina Laube and illustrator Mehrdad Zaeri. Since 2016, the two have been creating façade murals together as a duo. Their murals can now be found not only in Mannheim but throughout Germany and abroad. In March 2025, they were nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize with their joint graphic novel “Anna.” In Mannheim, their wall paintings can also be admired in the city center’s Quadrate, including at the Marchivum.
