Louis XIV

Description

Louis XIV (1638–1715): During his youth, King Louis XIV visited René de Longueil’s château on three occasions, traveling there each time from the Château de Saint-Germain. In 1651 and 1662, the host organized two memorable festivities. A lavish dinner was served featuring produce from the Maisons estate—meat stews, candied fruits, sorbets, wines, and more. A ball followed the meal, after which the King and the Court returned to Saint-Germain. The King’s final visit took place in 1671, the day before the death of one of his sons. The atmosphere was far from festive, and this marked the only time the King spent the night at the château.
