The mural by Thijs Jansen, created in 2025 on the façade of Huize Groeneweg, depicts a historic rope-making yard: a long, narrow site where rope was produced (a rope-making workshop). Because of the length required to make rope – sometimes as much as three hundred metres – rope-making workshops were situated on the outskirts of the town. The painting refers to the history of the location – the building stands on the corner of De Baan, where a rope-making workshop was once situated. It is a reproduction of the painting ‘De kleingarenbaan’ by Joris Herst from 1795 (the original hangs in Museum Gouda), combined with the poem ‘Ode to Gouda’ by Inez Meter, Gouda’s first city poet. --- De muurschildering van Thijs Jansen uit 2025 op de gevel van Huize Groeneweg, beeldt een historische lijnbaan uit: een lang, smal terrein waar touw werd gemaakt (een touwslagerij). Vanwege de lengte die nodig was om touw te maken – soms wel driehonderd meter – waren lijnbanen aan de rand van de stad gevestigd. De schildering verwijst naar de geschiedenis van de locatie – het pand ligt op de hoek van De Baan waar een lijnbaan gevestigd was. Het is een reproductie van het schilderij ‘De kleingarenbaan’ van Joris Herst uit 1795 (het origineel hangt in Museum Gouda), gecombineerd met het gedicht ‘Ode aan Gouda’ van Inez Meter, de eerste stadsdichter van Gouda.
