As part of Düsseldorf’s 40° Urban Art Festival 2019, local street artist BÄDBOY and others created a powerful artistic intervention centered around one of the darkest chapters of German history: the Holocaust deportations.
The project is deeply rooted in its local geography. Between 1941 and 1944, the Düsseldorf-Derendorf freight station served as the main deportation hub for the region, where more than 6,000 Jewish citizens, Sinti, and Roma were crammed into cattle cars and sent to Nazi concentration and extermination camps. Today, a memorial site featuring an original piece of the historic tracks marks this place of tragedy.
