Het Leen bevat een groot boscomplex met een breed scala aan flora en fauna. De inspiratie die Artoon heeft opgedaan voor deze levensgrote muurschildering komt door zijn wandelingen doorheen het gebied. Zijn hobby als natuurfotograaf leverde hem enkele bruikbare beelden op. Het bosthema kon zo tot een krachtig concept uitgewerkt worden. “Een uitdagend project om 10 dieren in 5 dagen te schilderen. Daarbij onder het gezelschap van vogelgeluiden was het absoluut een waardevolle ervaring.” volgens Artoon.
De bosdieren lijken elk moment tot leven te kunnen komen. Artoon weet deze dynamische realiteit te bereiken door de combinatie van penseelwerk, spuitbussen en airbrush. Een groene basis als camouflage staat bijna symbool voor Het Leen als voormalig militair domein. De plaatsing van de dieren daarop in verschillende kleurtinten geeft alles een natuurlijk 3-dimensionaal gevoel. Deze indrukwekkende prestatie brengt het bos nu een extra waardevolle en creatieve laag bij.
In het finale werk zit een imposante bosuil rustig op het kader van boomstammen dat de rest van de dieren omringd. Een ree springt er energiek uit terwijl de vleermuis wegvliegt. Aangevuld met rode paddenstoelen en de magnolia bloem fleurt het totaalplaatje helemaal op. De hand houdt het koolmeesje en de schitterende dagpauwoog vast, zorgvuldig om de verbinding tussen mens en dier te versterken. Het sluit aan bij de visie van Het Leen om de natuur toegankelijk te maken voor iedereen. Het geheel is te zien op de loods in provinciaal domein Het Leen te Eeklo.

The Leen contains a large forest complex with a wide range of flora and fauna. Artoon drew inspiration for this life-size mural from his walks through the area. His hobby as a nature photographer provided him with some useful images. The forest theme could thus be developed into a powerful concept. ‘It was a challenging project to paint 10 animals in 5 days. Accompanied by the sounds of birds, it was definitely a valuable experience,’ according to Artoon.
The forest animals seem as if they could come to life at any moment. Artoon achieves this dynamic reality through a combination of brushwork, spray cans and airbrush. A green base as camouflage is almost symbolic of Het Leen as a former military domain. The placement of the animals on it in different shades of colour gives everything a natural three-dimensional feel. This impressive achievement now adds an extra valuable and creative layer to the forest.
In the final work, an imposing tawny owl sits quietly on the frame of tree trunks that surrounds the rest of the animals. A deer jumps out energetically while the bat flies away. Complemented by red mushrooms and the magnolia flower, the overall picture is completely brightened up. The hand holds the great tit and the beautiful peacock butterfly, carefully reinforcing the connection between humans and animals. This ties in with Het Leen's vision of making nature accessible to everyone. The entire work can be viewed at the shed in the provincial domain of Het Leen in Eeklo.
