Hillhead

Description

Painted by Fraser Gray, with assistance from Richie Cumming.

Painted in the Eastside area of Kirkintilloch.

This was one of five murals, organised by Recoat for the Antonine Wall Project. They were painted to celebrate and map The Antonine Wall across Scotland.

This mural in Kirkintilloch was inspired by drawings created by local young people. It depicts the surviving objects related to the Antonine Wall.

The artist chose this unique still life arrangement of the artefacts, all chosen as they were unearthed close to the site. They have been arranged in front of the wall into a dramatically lit museum-like scene. The objects are front and centre, painted on plinths not only as an act of reverence but to elevate them beyond the roofs of the cars that park in front of them.
