Le MUR d'Anvers is een 'vrije' muur van 50m² die elke 2 maanden een nieuwe kunstenaar verwelkomt. Het concept komt uit Frankrijk en is een reactie op recente ontwikkelingen in de street art-wereld. Het straatbeeld wordt overspoeld met commerciële muurschilderingen en strikt gecureerde festivals. Creatieve vrijheid staat steeds meer onder druk en culturele toe-eigening loert om de hoek, aangezien de toenemende populariteit van street art officiële instanties zoals toeristische diensten en stadsmarketeers aantrekt. De grassroots-mentaliteit van old school graffiti, waarbij 'je stempel drukken' centraal staat, lijkt verloren te gaan in een wereld van Instagramwaardige foto's en hippe TikTok-video's. Met 'Le MUR d'Anvers' wil Street Art Antwerp een plek creëren waar alle stijlen en vormen van graffiti en street art welkom zijn. Le MUR d'Anvers is a 'free' wall of 50m² that welcomes a new artist every 2 months. The concept comes from France and is a response to recent developments in the street art world, the street scene is flooded with commercial murals and strictly curated festivals that seem to come straight from the printer. Creative freedom is increasingly under pressure and cultural appropriation lurks around the corner as the increasing popularity of street art attracts official bodies such as tourism services and city marketers. The grassroots mentality of old school graffiti, where 'leaving your mark' is central, seems to be lost in a world of Instagram-worthy pictures and hip tiktok videos. With 'Le MUR d'Anvers', Street Art Antwerp wants to create a place where all styles and forms of graffiti and street art are welcome. Through constant rotation, visitors will learn all facets of street art and, thanks to documentation of the process through photos, videos and interviews, the legacy of each work will never be lost.
