Big Crowned Crane

Description

Here’s an excerpt from the local newspaper Actu Strasbourg:

"It took a week, around a hundred spray cans, and a lot of acrylic paint for the artist Stom500—known in Strasbourg for decorating street furniture and certain buses—to complete this mural.

Visible on Rue d’Orbey, it adorns the side of a residential building block. Its size makes it impossible to miss.

This is my largest mural in Strasbourg. It depicts a crowned crane with a tiger-shaped rug on its back. Sitting on it is a small monkey, a species found in Asia. In front of the crane, there’s an Alsatian hamster parachuting down. There are also water lilies and tropical plants, the artist explains.

These elements were chosen following suggestions from local residents. We had several ideas—one featuring animals from the region and another that was a bit more open to the world. It was the second proposal that was selected, adds Stom500.

Bees, his trademark, are also part of the piece. For me, they create a link between all the animals. They symbolize living together, since they live in a hive, in synchronicity."
