Wombles Love Wimbledon

This vibrant mural features The Wombles—the iconic, eco-conscious furry creatures created by author Elisabeth Beresford in 1968, who famously live beneath nearby Wimbledon Common.

The artwork playfully captures characters like Tobermory, Alderney, and Orinoco in mid-action, using paintbrushes and buckets to cover up a wall of old, unwanted graffiti. The mural cleverly incorporates the physical brickwork, blending storytelling with a powerful community message.

Commissioned by the Love Wimbledon Business Improvement District (BID) and part-funded by South Western Railway, the piece was painted by the renowned London-based street art crew Graffiti Kings. The project was created to clean up a high-traffic pedestrian walkway, reduce anti-social vandalism, and promote the Wombles' timeless message of environmentalism, recycling, and local civic pride.
