The prize-winning design speaks directly to the rich heritage of Southwark and is divided into two distinct sections: the left represents day, while the right represents night. Thematically, one section focuses on the diverse people of Southwark, while the other highlights the area's history and recognizable landmarks.
The design by UK-Based artist Baiyu Liu was painted by Global Street Art. Due to the massive 300-square-meter scale and high level of detail, it required a team of twelve fine artists working over seven days. The entire mural was laboriously hand-painted using traditional 1.5 to 2-inch paint brushes, applied one brush stroke at a time. Baiyu Liu, also actively participated in the actual painting and installation alongside the Global Street Art team.
