This mural was painted in the town of Oberammergau in the very south of Bavaria. The idea was to paint something close to the traditional Lueftlmalerei but with a more sincere theme. The wolf is often used as a negative symbol (the Big Bad Wolf) but the greatest friend of humans, dogs, are also descendants of the wolf. The wolf-shaped shadow refers to this and as such the “innocent” boy can both be bad and good. The text on the wall reads: “The entire attraction and beauty of life consists of light and shadow” (Der ganze Reiz und die Schoenheit des Lebens setzen sich aus Licht und Schatten zusammen).
