The work is based on an archival photograph taken in 1940 at the RAF Northolt base in West London, with a schematic diagram of a Spitfire fighter plane used in the background. Its aim is to present the pilots of Squadron 303 in the context of their individual personalities, detached from the aura of war heroes. The best example of their unconventional character is Lieutenant Colonel Jan Zumbach (fifth from the left), an ace of the squadron, nicknamed Donald Duck, who after the war became a mercenary, smuggler, nightclub owner in Paris, and pilot of air taxis.
