Hestia

Hestia, created by Spanish artists Kraser and Nels in Murcia's Barrio del Carmen, was conceived as a tribute to the city's designation as Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020. Painted across a striking 180-square-metre façade on Avenida Ciudad de Almería, the mural transformed an ordinary residential wall into a monumental celebration of food, culture and community. At its heart stands Hestia, the ancient Greek goddess of the hearth, home and hospitality, reimagined as a contemporary guardian of Murcia's rich culinary traditions. She is surrounded by vibrant fruits, vegetables, lush vegetation and abstract graphic elements that reference the region's fertile orchards and Mediterranean identity.

The collaboration perfectly blends the distinctive styles of both artists. Kraser's refined figurative realism and dreamlike compositions provide the mural's central narrative, while Nels integrates dynamic graffiti lettering and geometric forms rooted in classic wildstyle, adding rhythm and energy to the composition. The result is a seamless dialogue between fine art and graffiti culture, tradition and modernity.

For more than six years, Hestia became one of Murcia's most recognisable landmarks and a symbol of the city's thriving urban art scene. In August 2026, however, the mural was painted over in white following complaints from residents that its dark colour palette contributed to higher indoor temperatures during the summer months. The decision sparked widespread public debate about the preservation of urban art, with many lamenting the loss of a mural that had become an integral part of Murcia's visual identity and cultural landscape.
