VAPSKY was born in Sofia at the end of the 70's. He grew up during the last decade of the communist era during which he developed his inquisitiveness and passions as painting, music and sport. When 18 years old, he left to France by himself and discovered something he never saw before : graffiti.
Since then, he was deeply infected by this "dangerous" virus.
At the beginning of the years 2000, the graffiti culture did not exist in Sofia. Every time he went back to Bulgaria, the city of Sofia was for him like a blank canvas. Building walls, stores, rooftops, trains, all kinds of spaces were available. He could express himself with no limits doing "throw-ups" and tags in the whole town. A real graffiti pioneer in his country of birth, he keeps on expressing himself in Paris where he lives now for more than 20 years. His unmistakable signature can now be found in multiple locations across the world.
VAPSKY likes to work on multitude of surfaces - stores, trains, tunnels, walls, however over the years he developed a real passion for working on trucks. The constant movement, the changing directions, the speed and freedom of trucks, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, makes them the perfect messengers to the world. While a graffiti artist wants to imprint his art across the world, trucks bring the world to the graffiti artist in a perfect way. Through a single truck journey as an artist you can exhibit to people in Paris, NYC, Sofia or Dakar.
VAPSKY’s style focuses on lettering, easy to be read, easy to be remembered through the simple, efficient, thick outlines. The idea is to be seen from far away, to draw attention, to chock the public.
The trucks have now become VAPSKY’s trademark.
See you next time one of his trucks pass you in the street.
