After a lot of overthinking about how to paint on water, here are some images of the final result of “Wind and Wings”, a project for the Département du Loiret, where I combined the history and wildlife of the canal with my own creative universe, interests, and motivations.
The process turned out to be totally leg-burning, but also fun, immersive, and inspiring.
Painting this woman sailing with a heron, a local bird whose wings spread like the sail of the traditional fûtreau boat, while I drifted nearby, created a unique connection between her, the canal, its wild world, and myself.
Just like the grey wagtail nesting in a tiny hole in the wall, or the painted carp fish that lives in the canal and popped up one day to say hello.
