‘Stop Staring at This’ (2020) by Subdude is located at 49 Hanbury Street.
SubDude is a London-based street artist who has been active since around 2016. His work centres heavily on wordplay and social commentary. He uses stencils and paste-ups (posters).
In this piece, which uses stencils and has been appearing in various locations since 2020, he holds up a mirror to passers-by. Anyone walking down the street – perhaps constantly looking at their phone – is confronted by the giant smartphone, which, in bright colours, commands them to stop staring,
As well as the impact of technology and social media on our behaviour, SubDude’s art also frequently addresses political themes such as Brexit, international politics and pop culture.
