Italian artist Skugio brings bold energy and personal history to his mural for Meeting of Styles 2025 in Antwerp. Titled "Funk Death," the artwork explodes with color and attitude, blending hip hop culture, graffiti lettering, and vivid character work. A skeletal grim reaper, laser-eyed and blasting tunes from a boombox, takes center stage, a nod to Skugio’s past as a breaker boy and his lifelong connection to music and street culture.

Skugio, originally from Ancona, Italy, started painting around 1999–2000, he continues to push boundaries by switching between lettering, characters, and other styles. “Painting the same way all the time is boring,” he says, preferring to draw inspiration from travel, hip hop, calligraphy, tattoos, the internet, and the creative energy of his friends.

This marks his fourth time in Antwerp, a city he finds consistently inspiring. “Meeting of Styles is really special for me,” he says, “because they’ve been organizing jams for a long time with a really high level of artists. It’s always an honor to be part of it.”

Skugio’s mural is both a tribute to hip hop and a celebration of artistic evolution, fierce, funky,fun and unforgettable.

Over 70 visionary artists from across the globe are set to transform more than 4000 square meters of urban arena at the "ZOMERFABRIEK" in street art district Berchem, during an electrifying weekend of live painting, culture, and community at Meeting of Styles Belgium. Guided by this year’s theme, "The Chosen Cause," the artists channel personal stories and convictions into bold visual expressions.
