This large-scale mural wraps around the exterior walls of Belly Talk, a floating takeaway shop at Hobart’s iconic Constitution Dock. Created in November 2025, the artwork transforms the utilitarian structure into a vibrant, waterfront landmark.
The mural features stylised native flora, birds, and flowing wave motifs that echo Tasmania’s coastal environment. A harmonious palette of blues, greens, pinks, and warm earth tones moves rhythmically across the walls, visually connecting the artwork to the surrounding harbour.
Positioned directly above the water, the mural becomes part of the landscape itself — with reflections often visible on calm days. As viewers move around the dock, different elements of the design reveal themselves, encouraging slow viewing and exploration from multiple angles.
Shanshan Ai, a Hobart-based artist originally from Beijing, is known for capturing Tasmanian places through a contemporary, nature-inspired lens. This piece continues her exploration of place, movement, and belonging within Hobart’s urban waterfront.
