Description

On Proveniersstraat, on the side wall of the building at Schiekade 99, there is a distinctive piece by Studio TopCat.

Ralph van Horssen is the Rotterdam-based artist and self-styled ‘street storyteller’ who works under the name Studio TopCat (formerly TopCat Design, as this piece is still signed). His fascination with cartoons – which began as a child with his father’s collection of comic books – is clearly evident in his work. His art is recognisable by its old-school cartoon-like figures drawn in thick lines and bright colours, with a graffiti-like feel.

This piece also possesses that ambiguity: an innocent-looking female figure holding a lamb in her arms has a cigarette/vape/joint in her hand.
