Mehmet-Kubaşık-Platz

Description

Mehmet-Kubaşık-Platz is named after Mehmet Kubaşık. He owned a small kiosk nearby on Mallinckrodtstraße. In 2006, he was killed there by a right-wing extremist terrorist group called the NSU. The square stands as a strong symbol against racism. It is Dortmund's first "sounding square" The local music school installed speakers here. They regularly play music pieces to bring art into the neighborhood. The colorful, curved bench, which is created by Janine Despaign is a popular meeting spot on the square.

In 2013 I started with a new hobby. In the beginning it was difficult to get reliable information how to find streetart in public space. In 2016, I had the idea of sharing my information with other street art enthusiasts and started my blog “Streetartwalks”. When I found out about this new street art community at the beginning of 2018, I was immediately on board.
