Muurschildering uit juni 2024 van Jan Rosius (Deejoohcee) in samenwerking met de stad Genk.

Het werk symboliseert het samenleven in Genk en meer bepaald hoe de stad Genk dit samen met alle Genkenaren wil uitdragen. Energie, licht, universaliteit en verbinding staan hierbij centraal.

Het idee voor het kunstwerk ontstond vanuit 'De 22', een mix van 22 Genkenaren die hun stadsgenoten vertegenwoordigen. Je herkent duidelijk de zon in het werk en dat is geen toeval. Bij 'De 22' staat deze zon immers symbool voor warmte, liefde en leven.

Het werk verwijst niet alleen naar de toekomst, maar ook naar het verleden. Het is ook een eerbetoon aan Sint-Maarten en de viering ervan, die vroeger met een groot vuur in Genk plaatsvond en mensen samenbracht.

The work symbolises living together in Genk and more specifically how the city of Genk wants to propagate this together with all the Genk residents. Energy, light, universality and connection are central to this.

The idea for the artwork originated from ‘De 22’, a mix of 22 Genk people representing their fellow citizens. You clearly recognise the sun in the work and that is no coincidence. After all, at ‘The 22’, this sun symbolises warmth, love and life.

The work refers not only to the future, but also to the past. It is also a tribute to Saint Martin and its celebration, which used to take place with a big fire in Genk and brought people together.
