Sint-Gummarus

The students of the school visited an exhibition by the artist in Lier in 2021 and were inspired by his work. Elements from student work and also the symbolism around Saint Gummarus were given a place in his design, which will be immortalized in the mural.
The legend says Gummarus cut a tree down during a pilgrimage to Rome, to make way for the pitching of his tent. The owner expresses his displeasure and Gummarus puts his belt around the tree so that it grows back together. An angel then brings Gummarus the message to stop his pilgrimage and to set up a place of worship at the place of the miracle. According to legend, later the city "Lier"  would then arise around this chapel.

This mural is in the school and best viewable from the walking path 'Stadsvest', you can get there via 'Begjnenhofstraat'.
