This mural pays tribute to the great Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, author of Frankenstein, who lived in and around Livorno and Tuscany, Italy, with her partner Percy in the 1820s. I highly recommend reading about Mary Shelley (and Percy). Their life story is the kind of thing that would make an unbelievable eight-part Netflix series. As much as her life was marked by tragedy, Mary truly broke the mould for women of her era.
This mural honours her and her creation Frankenstein, a work that paved the way for what we now call science fiction.
