Description

A storyboard mural illustrating Operation Anthropoid at Hotel Aida located on Kubišova Street, named after one of the key paratroopers involved in the mission.

Operation Anthropoid was a World War II mission organized by the Czechoslovak government-in-exile in cooperation with British intelligence to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, the Acting Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia. Czechoslovak paratroopers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš carried out the attack in Prague on May 27, 1942; Heydrich died from complications of his injuries on June 4. On June 18, seven Czechoslovak paratroopers, including Gabčík and Kubiš, were surrounded by German forces in the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Prague, where all seven died rather than surrender.
