The year 2022 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jonas Mekas, an avant-garde filmmaker, film critic, writer, and poet. It is hard to find a better place to commemorate and honour the memory of Jonas Mekas than on Skersvėjis Street (incidentally, Jonas Mekas himself named the side street Skersvėjis). Mural art artist Žygimantas Vilkas Amelynas, using a 1971 photograph of J. Mekas, made by photographer Antanas Sutkus, transferred his own interpretation of the image onto one of the walls. The artist admitted that Jonas Mekas is a huge inspiration to him. And not even because of what he did, but how he did it, because his entire life was art, and art was life.
