Nina Valkhoff is an illustrator and muralist from Rotterdam (NL) who has become known internationally for her lively and colorful renditions of plants and animals. She has been working as a professional muralist for over 20 years. Her goal is to create imagery that's pleasant to the viewer, but still leaves something to think about.
Nina studied illustration at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam. Her work can be seen worldwide on streets, apartment buildings, restaurants, offices, and shops.
Making big mural paintings is her passion. She loves to cover her walls with plants and animals, especially with endangered species in order to make people aware of their existence, to show the beauty of these animals and to point out our selective love for the cute or more common animals.

The people of Stadskanaal had to wait 8 months to see this mural finished. Nina ended up in hospital with only a few hours of work left to finish this mural. She was very ill and wasn't able to walk for a few months.
While painting this wall, Nina posted a photo on social media.  Gemma from Portugal responded emotionally to the photo. Her deceased cat 'Dukkah' looked exactly like the picture. It was true, the similarities were unique. Gemma was very sad about the death of her sweet cat and the story touched Nina very much. As a tribute to the deceased cat, Nina named this mural 'Dukkah'.
This mural is painted on 3 walls! Only from one specific spot you can see the cat complete.
