JDL ritrae una giovane madre italiana mentre porta in salvo dal mare una bambina africana. La donna abbraccia teneramente la bimba, che indossa un giubbetto salvagente arancione. Spicca, agli occhi dell’osservatore, una terza mano che sembra accarezzare il volto della bambina. Questo elemento si inserisce volutamente nella composizione con un alto valore simbolico: è la mano della madre naturale della piccola migrante, che l’artista immagina essere annegata nel Mediterraneo. Il delicato gesto è quindi l’atto estremo di saluto e di augurio alla figlioletta per la sua nuova vita. L’intento dell’artista, da sempre impegnata nel lanciare messaggi sociali contro il razzismo e le discriminazioni, è celebrare la vita e invitare chi osserva questa intensa scena a riconsiderare il concetto di accoglienza e apertura verso gli altri. Con quest’opera JDL esprime, inoltre, la speranza di assistere a un futuro in cui si apprezzi appieno la diversità e la ricchezza culturale che le nuove generazioni di migranti porteranno con sé crescendo in Italia e nel resto d’Europa, paesi che diventeranno a tutti gli effetti “home”, casa.

JDL portrays a young Italian mother rescuing an African child from the sea. The woman tenderly embraces the child, who is wearing an orange life jacket. A third hand, seemingly caressing the child's face, stands out. This element is deliberately inserted into the composition with a highly symbolic meaning: it is the hand of the little migrant's biological mother, whom the artist imagines drowned in the Mediterranean. This delicate gesture is therefore a final act of farewell and good wishes for her daughter's new life. The artist, who has always been committed to sending social messages against racism and discrimination, aims to celebrate life and invite those who observe this powerful scene to reconsider the concept of acceptance and openness towards others. With this work, JDL also expresses her hope for a future in which we fully appreciate the diversity and cultural richness that new generations of migrants will bring with them as they grow up in Italy and the rest of Europe, countries that will effectively become their "home."
