Cooktown Blue Water Club Mural

+1

Description

Stretching across the façade of the Blue Water Club on Webber Esplanade, this mural is a lively tribute to Cooktown’s maritime spirit. Painted in vivid blues and greens, it brings the Coral Sea to life, celebrating the region’s fishing heritage and the abundance of marine life just offshore.

The mural bursts with energy: a marlin leaps dramatically from the water, echoing the thrill of sportfishing; a turtle glides serenely beneath the waves; reef fish flash in tropical colours; and a diver explores the underwater world. A fishing boat and diver’s flag tie the scene back to the human connection with the sea, while curling waves across the top frame the artwork with movement and rhythm.

Supported by the Cook Shire Council Regional Arts Development Fund and local community clubs, the mural is more than decoration — it’s a landmark celebrating Cooktown’s relationship with the ocean, where stories of adventure, sustainability, and connection to nature are shared through art.
