Description
The ship, with its international flags and smoke from the funnel forming the words ‘Thank You’, is part of a wider initiative called Paint for Palestine, an anonymous collective of street artists and graffiti artists that shows solidarity through graffiti. Among other things, they paint shop shutters and walls to raise awareness and are mainly active in neighbourhoods such as East London and Tower Hamlets.
The painting was specifically commissioned as a message of gratitude, support and solidarity for the residents of the nearby Flower and Dean Estate. Here, the ship serves as a symbol of a safe haven, hope and the journey towards justice.
The ship is located on Thrawl Street, at the rear of a building at 30 Fashion Street.
