This mural was created during MURAL CITY 2026 in Bremen, Germany, under the theme "Beauty of Science". Eleven artists painted eleven façades, each connected to a field of research based in the city.

ISS.UE's mural shows a fragile construct balanced between cohesion and collapse. From the interplay of individual elements, something new takes shape that could give way at any moment. An object that appears alien. The work speaks of the daring of a departure into the unknown. Nothing less would stand at the beginning of a settlement on Mars, where a place to live would first have to be wrested from a hostile world. And yet the work reverses our gaze: on Mars we would be the strangers. So the supposedly alien beings are, in the end, ourselves. In the bleak, barren mood of the red planet, the surreal imagery makes this tension between departure and uncertainty palpable. 

Within MURAL CITY – Beauty of Science, ISS.UE's work casts a glance into the distance, to the question of how life on Mars might be possible. What resonates in the work is the subject of concrete research in Bremen.

Diese Arbeit entstand im Rahmen von MURAL CITY 2026 in Bremen, unter dem Motto „Beauty of Science". Elf Artists gestalteten elf Fassaden, jede mit einer Verbindung zu einem Forschungsfeld aus der Stadt.

Das Wandbild von ISS.UE zeigt ein fragiles Gefüge, das zwischen Zusammenhalt und Zerfall balanciert. Aus dem Zusammenspiel einzelner Elemente formt sich etwas Neues, das jederzeit auseinanderfallen könnte. Ein Objekt, das außerirdisch wirkt. Das Werk erzählt vom Wagnis eines Aufbruchs ins Unbekannte. Nichts anderes stünde am Anfang einer Besiedelung des Mars, wo ein Ort zum Leben erst gegen eine lebensfeindliche Welt errungen werden müsste. Und doch kehrt das Werk den Blick um: Auf dem Mars wären wir die Fremden. So sind die vermeintlich Außerirdischen am Ende wir selbst. In der tristen, kargen Stimmung des roten Planeten macht die surreale Bildwelt diese Spannung zwischen Aufbruch und Ungewissheit spürbar. 

Beim MURAL CITY – Beauty of Science wirft ISS.UEs Arbeit einen Blick in die Ferne, zur Frage, wie Leben auf dem Mars möglich wäre. Was im Werk anklingt, ist in Bremen Gegenstand konkreter Forschung.
