The Friends of Andreas Schotel Foundation have launched the Artist in Residence project. This means that every year, an artist from a different country is given the opportunity to live and work with them for a summer. In 2019, the Colombian artist Juliana Rios spent three months in Esbeek, where, as an outsider, she drew inspiration from what she saw around her. After just a few days in Esbeek, the artist was already impressed by all that is achieved in the village through the close cooperation between its residents. This consequently became the theme of a large mural on the viaduct on Groenstraat in Esbeek.
The mural features not only well-known residents but also several symbolic references to events in the village.

Stichting Vrienden van Andreas Schotel hebben het project Artist in Residence opgestart. Dit houdt in dat er elk jaar een kunstenaar uit een ander land de gelegenheid krijgt om een zomer bij hen te werken en te wonen. De Colombiaanse Juliana Rios verbleef in 2019 drie maanden in Esbeek, waar ze zich als buitenstaander liet inspireren door wat ze om zich heen zag. Al na enkele dagen in Esbeek toonde de kunstenares zich onder de indruk van wat er in het dorp allemaal wordt bereikt door de hechte samenwerking tussen inwoners. Dit werd dan ook het thema van een grote muurschildering op het viaduct aan de Groenstraat in Esbeek.
Op de muurschildering staan, naast bekende inwoners ook enkele symbolische verwijzingen naar gebeurtenissen in het dorp.
