Rik doesn't really think about it when he rides the subway through the tunnels. But there is a lot involved in being able to transport all travelers every day.
Hidden underground, there are several rooms where the power supply of the Rotterdam subway is regulated. There is one at the location of the mural that Riq made on behalf of #kendoe and the RET.
He did his research in this space underground. A place where time has stood still since it was built in the early eighties. Old cabinets with measuring equipment, regulators and meters. An intensely heavy bass sound that comes and goes every now and then. Just like the subway does.
You don't notice it above ground and when you're in the subway. So Rik wanted to show this hidden but interesting and important place to the outside world. His translation of the world hidden here underground is now outside, painted on the cylinder directly above it.
