Carme Vila

created for the NOU Sentit Urbà project, discover all the murals here.

NOU is a project structured around different artistic disciplines that makes Barcelona and its residents stand out. A melting pot in Nou Barris where creativity gives shape to shared stories, redefining the space by giving it a new urban meaning.

This mural by Antoine Guignard pays tribute to a key figure in the history of Torre Baró. Carme Vila was an activist committed to her community and one of the most prominent voices in the neighborhood association, working to improve living conditions and promote education and literacy among women in the neighborhood. Also known for being the wife of Manolo Vital, protagonist of the famous “bus 47 accident,” Carme played her own fundamental role in the social transformation of the district. The mural, a polished portrait on old wood, symbolizes her strength, perseverance, and deep roots in Torre Baró.
