Mintropplatz Tunel

Description

"Licht im Tunnel" - (Light in the Tunnel) was a famous street art and mural project by the Düsseldorf-based artist collective Farbfieber. Led by Klaus Klinger, more than 40 artists came together on July 9, 2011, to transform an entire 100-meter-long railway underpass in just a single day. The project is located at the Ellerstraße / Mintropplatz underpass in Düsseldorf, right behind the central train station. The murals on both sides of the underpass center around the question "Who owns the city?". It was created as a creative statement and a "gift from the artists to the citizens of Düsseldorf.

In 2018 to mark the 40th anniversary of the mural movement, Farbfieber and the MaJo Brothers completely redesigned the underpass at Mintropplatz. The large-scale murals serve as an uncensored commentary on the gentrification of the Oberbilk district, opposing the financial forces ("Capital") that displace local communities.

Andrea Ranke (streetartwalks)
In 2013 I started with a new hobby. In the beginning it was difficult to get reliable information how to find streetart in public space. In 2016, I had the idea of sharing my information with other street art enthusiasts and started my blog “Streetartwalks”. When I found out about this new street art community at the beginning of 2018, I was immediately on board.
