Karlínský vor (Karlín Raft)

Description

Adam Kovalčík’s Karlín Raft has “anchored” at the Baden Baden Štvanice cultural and sports spot at the beginning of the 2025 season, after previously being displayed at the nearby Holešovice Market Hall. Standing seven metres tall, the interactive installation gently sways, recalling historic water crossings between Prague’s riverbanks and the more recent ferry service linking Holešovice, Štvanice, and Karlín. With its relocation, the work gained a new visual identity — its characteristic blue shopping bags were replaced with yellow-and-white fabric reminiscent of traditional beach windbreaks.

In autumn 2025, a flag designed by Petra Waldauf Slabá was added to the mast, combining references to Štvanice’s hunting past, represented by the doe and hunting dog, with symbols of today’s summer leisure atmosphere, such as a beach ball, lemonade, and a paper boat.
