The mural ‘Smokje’ – the Groningen dialect word for ‘kiss’ – was the brainchild of Foppe ten Broek. It is an enlarged drawing by his then eight-year-old granddaughter, executed as a mural by Cindy Sprokel and Pieter Jan Kuiken. The two stylised, minimalist figures kissing, alongside the handwritten text ‘Smokje’, is a well-known eye-catcher in the historic district and epitomises Groningen’s conviviality and folk culture. The mural has been on display since 12 July 2023. --- De muurschildering ‘Smokje’ – Gronings voor ‘kusje’ – is een idee van Foppe ten Broek. Het is een uitvergrote tekening van zijn destijds achtjarige kleindochter, als muurschildering uitgevoerd door Cindy Sprokel en Pieter Jan Kuiken. De twee gestileerde, minimalistische figuren die elkaar kussen, met daarnaast de handgeschreven tekst 'Smokje' is een bekende blikvanger in de historische wijk en verbeeldt de Groningse gezelligheid en volkscultuur. De muurschildering is te zien sinds 12 juli 2023.
