Mélissa Follet est une artiste autodidacte rennaise. Sa démarche est de sensibiliser le public à la beauté du monde animal et de donner une voie à ces animaux invisibles qui subissent la destruction de leur environnement. Une démarche qui s’inscrit parfaitement dans sa technique basée sur le clair-obscur. « Le noir met le blanc en lumière. Il dévoile une partie visible. Le reste est suggéré et se devine. On sait qu’il est là mais il n’apparaît pas. »

Exceptionnellement cette fois-ci, pas de noir mais un bleu très profond. C’est un hommage à Boulogne-sur-Mer qui utilise cette couleur dans son logo et à l’image de cette ville tournée vers la mer. Cette réalisation constitue sa première fresque urbaine. Elle la commente avec ces lignes :

« J’ai choisi de représenter un poisson combattant pour son évolution. A l’origine, il vient d’Asie du Sud-Est. Il a été domestiqué au XVème siècle en Thaïlande où des combats entre deux mâles étaient organisés autour de paris sportifs. Il était tout petit et vert avec une petite queue. Aujourd’hui, son aspect en fait un poisson totalement différent. Suite à l’action de l’homme, sa queue a changé et grandi pour devenir le voile que l’on connaît aujourd’hui. C’est devenu un poisson très beau et donc très commercialisé. Une beauté acquise à quel prix ? D’autant que certaines personnes placent deux mâles dans le même aquarium et les deux poissons s’entretuent ». Une oeuvre qui pose une question : la beauté à quel prix ?

“I chose to represent a fighting fish for its evolution. Originally, it comes from Southeast Asia. It was domesticated in the 15th century in Thailand where fights between two males were organized around sports betting. He was very small and green with a small tail. Today, its appearance makes it a totally different fish. Following the action of man, its tail changed and grew to become the veil that we know today. It has become a very beautiful fish and therefore very commercialized. A beauty acquired at what price? Especially since some people place two males in the same aquarium and the two fish kill each other”. A work that asks a question: beauty at what price?
