‘The Butterfly Effect’ : mural painting covering all sides of the public library of Boortmeerbeek.

Small events can cause big consequences. Mathematician Edward Lorenz introduced this concept in an ecological context (“If a butterfly flaps its wings in Brazil can it set off a Tornado in Texas?”) but I chose to use it in a positive way in regards to the pleasure of reading or language itself: wether a child is read to by an adult and it leads to that child to become a writer, a teacher, an artist … Or weather an adult reads a sentence in a book and that leads to changing his/ her life: there’s a spark there that is the beginning of something bigger. I wanted to express that by this mural that envelopes the library building in Boortmeerbeek and in which pages of a magical book come to life.
