Four larger-than-life hares now bound through the pedestrian underpass at the Roter Steg in Schwäbisch Hall. Thanks to the initiative of Frieder Simpfendörfer, organizer of the Diversity Jams in Schwäbisch Hall, the artist duo Video.Sckre—Julia Heinisch from Linz, Austria, and Frederic Sontag from Ludwigsburg, Germany—was commissioned to transform the passage. Their creative process is always narrative and collaborative. While Video Oner primarily focuses on depicting animals, Sckre complements them with ornamental, abstract landscapes and forms. The mural in Schwäbisch Hall also features a classic rounded teapot with a teacup balanced on its lid. This is, of course, a reference to the Mad Hatter’s tea party with the March Hare in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. At the same time, it is a playful nod to the long-established Café Ableitner, located directly above the underpass. Julia Heinisch (born in 1990 in Linz, Austria) studied painting and sculpture at art academies in Vienna and Linz. Frederic Sontag (born in 1988 in Ludwigsburg, Germany) studied scenic painting and works, among other projects, for the Munich Kammerspiele theatre.
