This Sign Project is an ongoing social/pro bono art project created by Jacqueline de Montaigne. This small mural and sign was created for a local barber shop who in exchange, offered 10 haircuts to local children.
On Príncipe island the locals know every spot in town, where to buy what and where to order what but when you are a foreigner it takes a while to figure it all out as none of the vendors, local artisans or traders have any signs outside their shops.
On my last visit I started a 'sign project' which is now being made official with the local government. The project supports local vendors with small murals and signs to make them stand out to boost trade and atract tourists.
This is my 2nd shop in this ongoing volunteer project where I am also mentoring a local artists so they can continue the project (and increase his income) in a country where most people earn around 100€ a month.
