In this 19th-century church, a carpet of light now accompanies the steps of worshippers and visitors. Before any paint was applied, a protective vinyl film was laid over the paving stones, so the stone remains untouched and the colour can resonate freely. Upon this reversible skin, veils of acrylic and transparent glazes were built up, layer after layer, like the seasons of a life. Reflections intersect, merge, and recount the thousands of stories celebrated here—baptisms, weddings, farewells.
The artistic method, combining spray can and aerosol techniques, shifts from broad colour fields to pigmented mists that carve facets, evoking the sensation of a stained-glass window laid horizontally. With every step and at every hour of the day, the light assembles a new composition in real time.
As one advances through the church, a sensation of being enveloped by light arises, as though the vertical stained glass were now answered by its horizontal counterpart.
This project was carried out in close collaboration with the town’s mayor and the parish priest, in deepest respect for the place and for the people it welcomes.
