The Sky Will Have No Owner

Painted at the invitation of Street Art Floripa, this artwork emerges from the intersection of Florianopolis heritage, local biodiversity, and the polyphonic nature of the Portuguese language, celebrated here as a territory of freedom.

In the composition, the female figure exists in symbiosis with the joão-de-barro, an architect bird whose nests built upon her head personify how culture "makes a home" within us. The Azorean lace collar retrieves the traditional craftsmanship that crossed the Atlantic, weaving the historical fabric connecting Portugal to Southern Brazil.

Inscribed on the painting is the sentence by Mozambican author Mia Couto: "As long as there are birds, the sky will have no owner." I view the sky as the realm of pure creation, and the birds as the embodiment of artists, art, and poetry. As long as there are those who create, no border or political power can confiscate the space of dreams. Language and culture are open territories, belonging to everyone and to no one.
