Have you ever wondered why we take portraits? Why do we commemorate people’s achievements in this way? What is hidden in a portrait? Whether big or small, does a person hide their actions?
The mural depicts an employee/volunteer at the Branice Specialized Hospital. She cares for patients and conducts occupational therapy sessions, during which patients engage in various crafts, and in the summer, their main focus becomes lavender. Lavender grows in many places throughout the facility, and its scent can permeate almost every corner. In many cultures, lavender symbolizes peace, purity, charm, and devotion. It also has anti-inflammatory and insecticidal properties.
Another aspect is the issue of mental health and prevention. Mental health problems can appear at any age. Initially downplayed, often unnoticed, they lead to unpredictable consequences. The difficulty is exacerbated because once the problem arises, we begin to mask it. Fear of exclusion, fear of being judged by others, or simple shame prevent us from simply asking for help. I don’t want to go into statistics here, but conversation is a good start to moving forward. Talking to peers, observing older people, and evoking empathy through small gestures can prevent many unpleasant consequences.
Iain Reid wrote: “Little things connect us. Small gestures allow us to see ourselves and others in a better light.”
