Created for the 3rd edition of 'the Bridges Street Art Festival', theme for this edition: 'Craftmanship and cultural legacy of Bruges'

De derde editie is meteen ook het sluitstuk van het project. Daarmee toonde Wietse dat ook in een historische stad als Brugge hedendaagse kunst zijn plaats heeft. “Streetart is een heel toegankelijke kunstvorm, een wereldfenomeen waarbij gebouwen onder handen genomen worden door kunstenaars met diverse stijlen”, zegt de kunstnaar. “Brugge is altijd een kunststad geweest. Hedendaagse streetart gaat dan ook hand in hand met de rijke cultuurgeschiedenis van de stad.”

"Het thema van het festival dit jaar was ambachten in Brugge, dus besloot ik om handen te schilderen – omdat ambachten nauw verbonden zijn met het werken met je handen. Ik heb me wat verdiept in de geschiedenis van de Brugse ambachten en heb twee thema's gekozen waarmee ik mij verbonden voelde - het ambacht van de boekdrukkunst, aangezien mijn grootouders destijds een ouderwetse drukkerij hadden - en ook de tuinbouw, omdat ik mij veel verbonden voel met de natuur en stapel ons stadsappartement graag met planten ☘": deelt de artieste op haar socials

The third edition is also the final part of the project. Wietse showed that contemporary art also has its place in a historic city like Bruges. “Street art is a very accessible art form, a world phenomenon in which buildings are tackled by artists with various styles,” says the artist. “Bruges has always been a city of art. Contemporary street art goes hand in hand with the rich cultural history of the city.”

"The theme of the festival this year was crafts in Bruges, so I decided to paint hands - as crafts are much linked to working with your hands. I did some digging in the history of Bruges crafts and chose two themes I felt connected to - the craft of letterpress printing as my grandparents used to have an oldskool print factory in the time - and also horticulture as I feel linked to nature a lot and love to stack our city appartement with plants ☘": shares the artist on her socials
