Anyone travelling from Vilnius Airport to the city center is drawn to the unusual Lithuanian girl depicted on the wall of an apartment building in the Naujininkai neighbourhood - she’s impossible to miss. She is impossible to miss not only because of her size, but also because of her rather eccentric appearance.
Before embarking on this project, the renowned Japanese artist, illustrator, and designer Hiroyuki Mitsume Takahashi wanted to find out what a modern Lithuanian might have to say about their country. Drawing on the information gathered and his own imagination, the artist masterfully blends Lithuanian ethnographic motifs with futuristic elements and anime stylistics. The result is captivating and engaging (try counting how many Lithuanian symbols are gathered here!).
Kipras Petrulis, who brought the project to life, was delighted to have had the opportunity to be part of an international project that also commemorated the centennial of diplomatic relations between Japan and Lithuania.
